At Texas State University Dining Services, the experience is as important as the meal. The Den Food Court continues to be a favorite for university diners, and it has earned a facelift and menu enhancement, the perfect pairing for a one-of-a-kind dining experience. To minimize the impact on TXST diners, the Den will close for renovations beginning May 4 through the summer 2021. Here’s what diners can expect when the remodeled and renamed The Den Food Company opens in the fall 2021:

  • Menu Offerings Tailored to Campus Taste Preferences

  • A New Vibe and Ambiance in Indoor & Outdoor Dining

  • Spaces for Diners to Create Their Own Á La Carte Experience

The TXST Dining Services Team looks forward to welcoming new diners and regulars to The Den Food Company—it’s not just a new name, it’s an all-new dining experience.

“Made-to-order” Menu Offerings

The serving area upgrade and new retail dining concept reflects the vision of the campus community whose votes guided the transformation. The new retail venues that will open by the fall 2021 semester include:

Absurd Bird, a fan favorite known for serving hand-breaded, hormone-free, steroid-free, and antibiotic-free chicken fried in non-GMO, trans-fat-free oil. Looking for the perfect side? This bird is served with house-made fried pickles that can be dipped in “The Eat ‘Em Up Sauce.” Each dish is paired with a fresh-baked southern-style biscuit—the Absurd signature butter, while tough to resist, is optional.

Pom & Honey offers an on-trend and healthy experience featuring customizable and delectable salads, grain bowls, and wraps. Bobcats will love these dishes for a few reasons – delicious flavors, a variety of vegan options, wholesome ingredients, and bright spices, making any diner feel great!

Service & Ambiance with “All the Feels”

The new and improved Den Food Company is all about speed of service, variety, and a space that exudes synergy when friends and colleagues meet for a quick bite or a study session.

Students, faculty, staff, and visitors who are frequent diners at The Den will really notice and appreciate the significant enhancements to the outdoor seating area in the breezeway between Academic Services Buildings North and South. Urban outdoor lighting and bar seating will give guests the feel of dining in a metropolitan area. The addition of a large exterior bar dining ledge will create a more open environment and add more bar-style seating with a view, replacing the large windowpanes. The bar will include a window awning that is perfect for opening the dining experience to good weather, creating more relaxed, airy seating. And there will be even more innovative spaces with the addition of pergolas to the exterior dining area in the breezeway. For the final TXST personal touch, the walls will feature oversized murals that depict the campus spirit.
